5This private tour company...
This private tour company is excellent. My friends and I had a great time and loved our experiences with the raptors, the bears and actually got to see a whale. Our guide is great and was very knowledgeable. He catered to our needs and gave us such a personalized experience that we felt special. No rushing or pressuring us. We would definitely use them again. We HIGHLY recommend this company. Worth it.
5An incredible tour beyond the norm
Gary was our guide, and his insights and history on Sitka were greatly appreciated.. If there was a highlight for our Alaska visit, this was it. We able to see salmon spawn, learning all about their return to where they started. We visited the bear sanctuary where he provided so many details on black bears vs brown bears including their distinct differences, their mating and birthing patterns, and their hibernation. He also took us to visit a hatchery to learn why they’re important for the future of salmon. He was a former teacher and we saw the boarding school where he taught— where close to 90% of these students go onto college. His enthusiasm for Sitka is contagious.

5Sitka with private guide
We had a wonderful time exploring Sitka with Gary. He was a great person to show us around. Saw lots of things we wouldn’t have known to see.
Sitka is a small island town on Alaska's Pacific coast, once the capital of Russian America, with onion domes, totem poles and a sound ringed by mountains.
Sitka sits on the west coast of Baranof Island in south-east Alaska, facing the Pacific across a sound dotted with islands and overlooked by the volcanic cone of Mount Edgecumbe. It was the capital of Russian America, known as New Archangel, and in 1867 Alaska was formally transferred from Russia to the United States on Castle Hill. The onion-domed St Michael's Cathedral and the Russian Bishop's House, built in 1842, recall that past.
Top-ranked sights in Sitka: Fortress of the Bear, Alaska Raptor Center, Sitka National Historical Park.
