Here we will have our lunch and from here we will start our 2.5 hour walk to the town of Cabanaconde. This optional 2.5-hour hike is an ancestral trail, bordering the top of the canyon. This hike is moderate to easy in intensity, with a gradient of 80 meters.

About Arequipa

Arequipa, in southern Peru, is a white-stone colonial city beneath the cone of El Misti volcano, close to the deep Colca Canyon.

Arequipa lies at about 2,300 metres in the dry southern Andes, with the cone of El Misti volcano rising above it and Chachani and Pichu Pichu on either side. Its centre is built from sillar, a light volcanic stone that has earned it the name of the White City. The Plaza de Armas has arcades, palms and the cathedral, whose façade stretches the full length of one side.
