Manikarnika Ghat, the main burning ghat, is the most auspicious place for a Hindu to be cremated. The corpse is doused in the Ganges prior to cremation.
Shri Samrajeswar Pashupatinath Mahadev Mandir, also known as the Nepali Mandir, Kanthwala Mandir and Mini Khajuraho, is one of the oldest and most famous temples in the holy city of Varanasi. This temple has great religious importance in Hinduism and is dedicated to the Lord Shiva. Constructed in the 19th century A.D by the King of Nepal, the temple is made of terracotta, stone and wood and is replica of the Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu.
For Hindus, death should come at home or at one of the sacred Hindu pilgrimage cities. Kashi, India’s holy city situated on the banks of river Ganga, is especially favored, for it is said that the souls of all who die there immediately attain Moksh.

Along the west bank, about eighty ghats, broad stone stairways, descend to the water, among them Dashashwamedh Ghat, where lamps and chanting mark the evening aarti ceremony. The Kashi Vishwanath Temple, dedicated to Shiva, stands in the old city's maze of narrow lanes.
