The hotel was built in 1892-1893 for the Canadian Pacific Railway and was originally called the Hôtel Frontenac. It was designed by Bruce Price in the château style, which is a mix of Gothic Revival and French Renaissance styles. Château Frontenac has 610 rooms and suites, all with views of the city or the St. Lawrence River. The hotel also has several restaurants, bars and shops. Château Frontenac has hosted many famous guests over the years, including Charles Lindbergh, Winston Churchill, and Eleanor Roosevelt. It was also the site of the two Quebec Conferences in 1943 and 1944, where the Allies discussed strategies for World War II.
The terrace was built in 1838 and was originally intended for private use by the Governor General of Canada. However, it was opened to the public in 1879 and has been a popular place for visitors ever since. The terrace is a great place to take a walk, have a picnic or just relax and enjoy the views. There are also several restaurants and shops located along the terrace. In winter, the terrace is transformed into a skating rink. This is a popular activity for both locals and tourists.
The square is home to several historic buildings, including the Notre-Dame-des-Victoires church, the Château Frontenac hotel, and the Museum of Civilization. It is also a popular tourist destination and is known for its cobbled streets and charming shops and restaurants. The Church of Notre-Dame-des-Victoires is a Roman Catholic church located on Place-Royale in Quebec, Canada. It is the oldest stone church still retaining the same walls in Canada and was built between 1688 and 1723. The church was originally built as a chapel dedicated to the Infant Jesus. It was renamed Notre-Dame-de-la-Victoire after the Battle of Quebec in 1690, and Notre-Dame-des-Victoires after the dispersal of the British fleet commanded by Admiral Hovenden Walker in 1711. The church is a French Baroque style building. It is built in carved stone and has a nave with three sections, transept and presbytery. The bell tower is neoclassical in style and was added in 1800.
The Morrin Center is a National Historic Site and a major English-speaking cultural center located in the heart of historic Old Quebec City. Built over 200 years ago as one of the city's first prisons, it now houses one of the most beautiful libraries in the world.
Old Quebec is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is known for its cobblestone streets, charming shops and restaurants, and historic buildings.
The gate was built in 1878 and is named after King Louis IX of France. It is a beautiful example of Victorian architecture, with a neo-Gothic design. The gate is flanked by two towers and in front of it is a drawbridge spanning the moat. It's also just a short walk from many of Old Quebec City's other popular attractions, including Château Frontenac and the Citadel of Quebec.
The building was designed by the architect Eugène-Étienne Taché and was built between 1877 and 1886. It is a Second Empire style building, with a red brick and limestone façade. The building has eight floors and is topped by a copper dome. The interior of the building is luxuriously decorated. The National Assembly hall is a large rectangular room with an upper gallery. The room is decorated with frescoes and marble columns. The Quebec Parliament Building is an important historical and cultural landmark in Quebec. It is a symbol of Quebec's autonomy and its French identity.
La Fontaine de Tourny is a fountain located in front of the Parliament building in Quebec City. It was originally created in 1853 by the French sculptor Mathurin Moreau and was exhibited at the 1855 World's Fair in Paris. The fountain was purchased by Maison Simons, a local department store, in 2003 and was restored and donated to Quebec City in 2007 to commemorate the city's 400th anniversary. The fountain is made of bronze and is 13 meters high. It represents a central column with four figures representing the four rivers of Quebec: the Saint Lawrence, the Saguenay, the Manicouagan and the Saint Maurice. The column is surrounded by four smaller fountains, each representing a different aspect of the city's history: agriculture, trade, shipping, and industry.
The Quebec Museum of Civilization (Musée de la Civilization) is a museum of history and anthropology located in historic Old Quebec. The museum was opened in 1988 and is one of the most visited museums in Canada. About Quebec City
Quebec City is a French-speaking walled city above the St Lawrence River, with cobbled lanes, a grand hilltop château and a historic old town.
Quebec City stands on a cliff above the St Lawrence River, and its old town, a UNESCO-listed warren of stone houses, church spires and steep cobbled streets, is the only walled city north of Mexico. Samuel de Champlain founded a settlement here in 1608, and the Château Frontenac, a copper-roofed grand hotel, dominates the skyline above Dufferin Terrace.
Top-ranked sights in Quebec City: Old Quebec (Vieux-Québec), Quebec Royal Square (Place-Royale), Petit Champlain District (Quartier Petit Champlain).
