  • 5Excellent Experience

Before our week's holiday to Antigua, my husband was keen to climb to the highest point on the island which is Boggy Peak. He knew it would be difficult and wondered how he would find a guide for the walk. On Wednesday we searched the web and read a report on the ascent/descent which then recommended Trek Tours. The Tripadvisor comments encouraged us to email the company. Within an hour or so, he was booked to walk with Dwight on the Friday. An email received on Thursday evening confirmed the next morning's arrangements. This all helped us to feel confident that the booking would take place. A very happy hill walker returned after a few hours. Dwight was every bit as helpful as commented below. He is very knowledgeable about the wildlife and plants. The key advantage of booking a Trek Tours guide to climb Boggy Peak is ... the key! It is not possible to access the very without a key to open the gate to the communications area. Thank you to Trek Tours for your prompt responses to emails and all of the arrangements. Highly recommended.

  • 5Great Guide, Great Hike, Great Views!

Darryl was great! His knowledge about the island was truly impressive. He was great at explaining the history of the island, the plants and animals, and the current culture of Antigua. He really exceeded all our expectations! The hike was fun. A good walk, nothing too hard or too easy for a somewhat in shape person. Views at the top are well worth!

  • 5Absolutely excellent guided hike with Dwight. Highly recommend this trip.

Absolutely fantastic hike to the Pillars of Hercules. Dwight was a fantastic and knowledgeable guide who quickly recognised as a pretty fit couple in our early 60s that we'd not be deterred by the more energetic bits of the hike. Pack watershoes for climbing across the rocks at the Pillars of Hercules themselves.

  • 5Hike & Ray - A Magical Time

I did the Hike & Sting Ray City combo for GBP 113.51. Both were fantastic. Khalil was a great guide. He arrived at the AirBnb on time. He also stopped so I could grab a quick meal at the side of the road. We hiked the Shirley Heights trail, fantastic views! Unfortunately, it was not a clear day so I could not see Montserrat, but it was beautiful nonetheless. Khalil walked at my pace which was greatly appreciated, and he shared his knowledge of the area and its history. He in fact shared his knowledge on places we drove by as well! At Shirley Heights, you stop for a breather, take pics at the look-out point, and can purchase a drink at the bar. My guide also introduced me to the little fruit on the cactus plants, they were delicious! Trek Tours purchases your ticket for Sting Ray City, the guide checks you in, leaves and returns for pick up after that tour. It was so fun!! Khalil got me there early, so I was able to take my time and change into my swimwear. At pick up time, he also waited so that I could purchase a souvenir. Sting Ray City (Not under Trek Tours’ control): Note that sea shoes are not permitted, they take you out on speedboats to a shallow area with soft sand. You might also wish to bring your own snorkel if you don’t mind using one that Sting Ray City provides. These were not cleaned, they just take them out of the buckets, where they were left from the crowd before. The guides look out for those who can’t swim as you pass by deeper areas (mostly when getting off the platform and walking a few feet to the shallow area). You can bring your phone and have a friend take a photo/take it yourself if you have a waterproof case. They do sell photos taken with a camera by the guides, I opted not to purchase mine. They give a safety briefing before we head out, and they provide beverages when we return (juice or rum punch). The rays are very accustomed to human interaction, so feeding and kissing them (yes, kissing haha) was a smooth magical time :) I was picked up just before 8:00 a.m. and returned to my Airbnb before 1:30 p.m., so about 5.5hr total. Shirley Heights was about a 40 min drive away. I was a solo female traveler, and the only one on the tour, but I felt safe with my male guide. If I had the time to do it again, I’d definitely hike the Pillars of Hercules route and see the sting rays again!!

Dwight was amazing. He was able to tell lots of stuff of the forests and introduced me to all the fruits and plants along the way. I booked with the difficult hiking to Mount Obama and it definitely worths it. The entire experience is beautiful and rewarding.

About St John's

St John's is the capital of Antigua, a harbour town of low colourful buildings dominated by a twin-towered cathedral.

St John's lies at the head of a deep natural harbour on the north-west coast of Antigua. The Cathedral of St John the Divine, dating from the 1840s, dominates the town with its two towers, and the Museum of Antigua and Barbuda, housed in an eighteenth-century courthouse, tells the island's story from its first settlers to independence. Fort James guards the harbour mouth, and Redcliffe Quay has been restored from old waterfront warehouses.

Top-ranked sights in St John's: Heritage Quay, Fort James, Dickenson Bay.
