Towering over Apia Harbour, the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is one of Samoa's most breathtaking landmarks, both inside and out. Its stunning interior features an ornate timber ceiling and vibrant stained-glass windows, a beautiful contrast to the original 1884 structure rebuilt at a cost of ST$13 million. Be sure to visit this architectural marvel, and explore other impressive churches scattered across the islands.
The impeccably maintained grounds and villa of author Robert Louis Stevenson are preserved for visitors, offering a glimpse into the final four years of his life in Samoa. While "Villa Vailima" has undergone several makeovers, it is now filled with replicas that reflect the appearance of this classic colonial home, alongside a few original trinkets and personal belongings. To truly immerse yourself in his story, take a tour with one of the museum's incredibly knowledgeable guides.
At the Tiapapata Art Centre, visitors can explore an ever-changing lineup of themed exhibitions showcasing original creations from talented local artists. Beyond the galleries, the centre regularly hosts engaging evening events, including documentary and arthouse film screenings. For a truly unique experience, join one of their popular astronomy nights, where telescopes are provided for stargazing in the Samoan highlands.
Marvel at the breathtaking Papapapaitai Falls, one of Samoa's tallest and most dramatic waterfalls, cascading 100 metres into lush rainforest along the Cross Island Road. Although viewed from a convenient roadside lookout, the untouched jungle surroundings enhance its untamed beauty and natural charm. This idyllic spot invites families and nature lovers to enjoy picnic areas, spacious grounds, and convenient changing rooms for a perfect day out. For the most magical experience, plan your visit during the wetter months when the waterfalls are at their most spectacular.
The To Sua Ocean Trench is a breathtaking natural wonder, formed when ancient lava tubes collapsed to create a massive, 30-metre-deep swimming hole filled with crystal-clear turquoise seawater. Accessible by a long wooden ladder, this unique geological marvel is surrounded by vibrant gardens and connected to the ocean through underwater caves. A visit to To Sua offers an unforgettable experience, blending adventure, stunning scenery, and a deep connection to Samoa's dramatic volcanic landscape.
We will stop by to visit and enjoy the best white sand beach on the island. You will get to enjoy breeze of the South Pacific and we get lucky we can see the following things. About Upolu
Upolu is the main island of Samoa, a green volcanic island of waterfalls, a sea trench and white-sand beaches around the capital, Apia.
Upolu is the second-largest island of Samoa but home to most of its people, with the capital, Apia, on its north coast. A mountainous spine of forest runs along the island, falling to a coast of coral reefs, black-rock headlands and white-sand beaches. Robert Louis Stevenson spent his last years in a house on the slopes above Apia, now a museum, and is buried on the summit of Mount Vaea.
