Itinerario

  1. Your professional tour guide will show you the real outback they love and enjoy so much. You will be collected from outside the Outback Pioneer Hotel, Desert Gardens or Sails in the Desert in Yulara (Ayers Rock Resort) between 1:30 to 2:30 pm. You will then drive to the World Heritage listed Uluru and Kata Tjuta National Park.

    15 min

  2. From here one of your two guides will take you on a guided Mala Walk. The Mala Walk follows the north-west side of Uluru, where there are many fine examples of Anangu rock art, and you can experience the wonder of the sheer vertical walls. The guide will tell dreamtime stories of the Anangu People.

  3. From here start your second Uluru guided walk to the Mutitjulu Waterhole. The guide will take you along a short track to the Mutitjulu Waterhole – home of an ancestral water snake called Wanampi. The guide will share stories of local traditions and explain how the Anangu people traditionally used the waterhole for hunting. The caves containing rock art were used in the past by Anangu still alive today.

    30 min

  4. Head to the base of Uluru (Ayers Rock).

  5. Visit the Aboriginal Cultural Centre where you will have time to learn about the local Pitjantjatjara people and buy some souvenirs. The Cultural Centre was built with 90,000 mud bricks with the help of the local Anangu people. It is built on a sacred site and has very special meaning to the local Anangu people.

  6. Drive from the front of Uluru around to the Kuniya car park, which is at the back of Uluru.

  • 5Fantastic Uluru Experience

We had a fantastic time on the tour. Lauren was amazing and very knowledgeable. The group turned out to be small which was a bonus for us with another group joining us for the BBQ dinner, which was nice and very pleasant.

  • 3Mediocre experience

I found the tour guide rather unfriendly and evidently keen to get home. I was also surprised to hear that both Uluru and nearby waterhole had been 'diacovered' in the 1800s...despite the fact that local communities had been involved with both sites for thousands of years! A slight cultural misrepresentation!

  • 3Bring a face net; tour is no frills as is dinner

Bring a face net. The flies are awful. The dinner was a common barbecue invaded by flies. The rock is spectacular. The guide was good.

  • 3Beware

The tour started out ok. We had 8 total in our initial group. After tour guide informed us that the regular tour guide was on holiday, we quickly learned this was going to downhill. We made several stops to walk around and we were told we could leave our belongings on the tour bus so we did not have to carry it around. There were 3 members in our group who took off when walking, and the tour guide was with them giving them info. The result was us (the other 5) did not get the info, so we had to keep asking him to repeat himself and then it was an abreviated version. At one point he advised us to get off the bus and walk on the path and he would go park the bus and double back to meet up with us. He did not tell us how far to walk. So we begau walking. It was 104 degrees F (41 degrees C). We walked and sweated. And then we met up with him on the path then we all had to double back becuase we had walked past some spots that he wanted to tell us about. They since that happened, we had to wait for other tour groups as they were in the spots. Then he told us we would be meeting up with 6 others at the BBQ. We got to the BBQ site and the other 6 were not there, so we had to wait about an hour. The other group with 6 arrived and they started setting up for the BBQ. We were told we could walk around and take pictures. Next thing we saw was OUR tour bus taking off with our belongings. We were told that it was no problem and that the tour bus would be back......but our belongings were on the bus and several of us needed items that were on the bus. We were told they forgot something so had to go back to get stuff (they did not tell us what they forgot but we assumed it was something for the BBQ because they could not start the BBQ till the bus got back). The bus finally returned and could once again get access to our belongings on the tour bus. We then had to quickly eat and were rushed to get back on the bus for the return. Also, as we learned, the other 6 were now riding back on our tour bus so they had moved many of our belongings without telling us. Very disjointed tour. I would hesitate to book again. If not for the beautiful landscape and views of Uluru, this would have been a disaster.

  • 3Ok (not great) and overpriced

I was the only one to book this tour, so I had a private tour guide! Despite that, the guide Yad was still hard to hear (but still friendly). This tour was just meh. The stories that were told on the tour were the same ones that you could read about in the cultural center. There were a few extra details about the different caves on the walk, but not anything which made the price worthwhile. The BBQ dinner was ok. The steaks were tender and well-done, without any seasoning that I could taste. The rest of the spread was decent as well, but not worth the price. If I were to visit again, I would rent a car to go to Uluru and the cultural center on my own schedule. Any questions could be answered by the cultural center staff or by the staff doing the free experiences at the resort.

About Uluru

Uluru is a huge red sandstone monolith in the desert of Australia's Northern Territory, sacred to the Anangu and the centrepiece of a World Heritage park.

Uluru rises 348 metres above the flat red plain of Australia's Red Centre, and a walk of about 10 km circles its base, passing waterholes, rock art and cliffs fluted by wind and rain. It is sacred to the Anangu, the traditional owners, who share its stories at the cultural centre in the park. The park is listed as a World Heritage site for both its natural and its cultural value.
