In Colombia there are two mud volcanoes: one located in Arboletes, Antioquia, and another in the rural area of the municipality of Santa Catalina, next to Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, next to the Totumo reservoir. The latter is the attraction to visit in this activity. It is an attractive and popular place for being full of medicinal sludge. Its inhabitants claim that it is healing thanks to its components such as water, silica, aluminum, magnesium, sulfur, calcium, iron and other minerals. According to testimonies from residents and visitors, it has therapeutic properties, leaving a positive appearance on the skin and relieving muscle and joint pains. In summer, the volume of mud in the volcanic cone decreases; in winter, due to the bog next to the volcano, it fills to the point of overflow.
