1. Masmak Fort is in the AlDirah neighborhood of Riyadh, a symbol of the unification of Saudi Arabia. It was the site of a historic battle that turned the tide of the struggle for control in favor of the House of Saud and paved the way for modern-day Saudi Arabia. It is made from clay and mudbrick fort.

2. One of Riyadh’s oldest traditional markets that carries 100 years of history within its alleyways. As soon as you start your tour in Souk AlZal and hear the sellers’ voices in the auctions, you will feel that you have traveled to the past of the city. The souk is known for its antiques, rare coins, and old utensils. You may also find musical instruments, old record players, and hundreds of interesting items that seem as if they came from a museum of ancient folk traditions.

3. The Murabba Palace was established by order of King Abdulaziz, the founder of the Kingdom. You will notice the unique design of the foyer at the center of the palace, surrounded by all the rooms. It was designed according to the prevalent traditional designs at the time, conveying unique architecture to its modern-day visitors. On the way to the Palace, we will visit the King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives (Darah). It services the history, geography, literature, and heritage of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The National Museum: From the earth to the moon, and from the prehistoric ages to the modern ages, the hallways of the Saudi National Museum will take you on an adventure that transcends time and space. You will witness artistic and historical evidence in the heart of Riyadh in the Al-Murabba neighborhood near King Abdulaziz Palace. The museum spans a distance of 17,000 km2, where it tells the story of 3,700 artifacts such as statues, scripts, and unique sculptures.

5. The UNESCO World Heritage Site of At Turaif as well as the beautiful valley of Wadi Hanifah which is a desert oasis in the heart of the historical Diriyah district in Riyadh.

• 5we had a great tour

  we had a great tour with Dr. Thamer. He kept us on schedule, but it did make for a long tour, partly due to Riyadh traffic. First stop was the National Museum. As much as we like history, we can get overwhelmed with the details of displays in a museum. Dr. Thamer did a wonderful job of giving us the stories and moving on. He really did a masterful job. It was a great visit. Masmak Fort is historically very significant for Saudi. Again, we didn't get too overwhelmed with details. It was worth the visit. The souq wasn't quite what we'd imagined since it was a living busy place. Instead it was a cultural tour as we learned about oud, and Saudi men's garments. It wasn't really a place for shopping (which is what we'd hoped). Finally Diriyah...what a gorgeous area. He saved this until evening when we could see it with lights. What a beautiful place. We had to fight traffic to get there. We were tired by the time we got back to our hotel, but it had been an excellent tour.

  Rakan was very friendly and knowledgeable. We made a couple of requests during the tour and he was happy to accommodate.

  All the businesses were closed as stated in previous reviews. This is really a robbery and they know that the businesses are closed, but yet they drive around aimlessly and make you feel uncomfortable do not book.

Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, rises from the desert plateau of Najd, a city of glass towers, old mud-brick forts and desert escarpments.

Riyadh sits on the Najd plateau in the centre of the Arabian Peninsula, a fast-growing capital of towers and wide highways. The Masmak Fortress, a fort of clay and mud brick, marks the recapture of the city in 1902 by Abdulaziz ibn Saud, who later founded the kingdom, and the Kingdom Centre tower has a sky bridge linking its two prongs. The National Museum tells the story of Arabia from prehistory to the present.
