1. This tour starts when you leave the port of call and get into the Panamerican Highway. You get to the road to Monteverde. The descendants of the original Quakers that came here in the 50’s, decided to protect their paradise from massive tourism by not paving the roads that access the region. In a country and area where the pouring rains turn dust into mud in a blink, this defense worked for many years.

2. You will see why as you arrive at the Cloud Forest. The area where you have the first contact with this magical sort of rainforest has 6 bridges in total. After your cloud forest adventure, you’ll enjoy a delicious Costa Rican lunch featuring fresh local produce. Following lunch, you’ll visit a sloth sanctuary, created in partnership with the Caribbean Sloth Sanctuary of Costa Rica, featuring rescued sloths in a natural habitat. These gentle creatures, saved from poaching, habitat loss, illness, and accidents, now have a safe haven. Enjoy a guided tour to learn about these iconic mammals and their unhurried lifestyle. Observe them from a respectful distance as they move leisurely through the trees, offering a rare glimpse into their world where time slows down. And then, back to the pier with smiles in your heart and on your face.

About Puntarenas

Puntarenas is a Pacific port on a narrow sandspit in the Gulf of Nicoya, with a seaside promenade, a cruise dock and ferries to the Nicoya Peninsula.

Puntarenas stretches along a sandspit about five kilometres long that pokes into the Gulf of Nicoya, with the sea on one side and an estuary on the other. In the 19th century it was Costa Rica's main Pacific port, when coffee from the Central Valley was carted down to be shipped abroad. Today a long seafront promenade, the Paseo de los Turistas, runs along the beach, and cruise ships call at the dock.
