About Salento
Salento, in Colombia's coffee region, is a small hill town of coloured balconies close to the Cocora Valley and its towering wax palms.
Salento sits in Quindío department at around 1,900 metres in the Central Andes, in the heart of the coffee region. Houses along Calle Real are painted in bright colours, with carved wooden balconies and doors, and the main square is ringed with craft shops and cafés. A stairway climbs to a lookout above the rooftops, and old Willys jeeps parked on the plaza carry passengers to the valley.
