Nafplio is a seaside town in the Peloponnese, once the first capital of modern Greece, with Venetian lanes, a harbour fortress and a hilltop castle.

Nafplio sits on the Argolic Gulf in the north-eastern Peloponnese, a town of neoclassical mansions, Venetian houses and flower-hung balconies climbing from the waterfront. It was the first capital of modern Greece, from 1823 to 1834.
