Itinerario

  1. SET IN GOLDEN DESERT SANDS AND CLIMBING THREE STOREYS INTO THE SAUDI ARABIAN SKY, IS THE AWE-INSPIRING ELEPHANT ROCK (ALSO KNOWN AS JABAL ALFIL), ONE OF ALULA’S MANY GEOLOGICAL MARVELS. Unlike the ornate, hand-carved facades of nearby Hegra’s Nabataean tombs, the "trunk" and "body" of this monolithic red sandstone beast were shaped by natural forces — millions of years of wind and water erosion. The beauty of the unrefined structure is enhanced by a landscape of golden sands, studded with rocky outcops, many of which are equally impressive in size and have interesting shapes and figures

About AlUla

AlUla is an oasis in north-west Saudi Arabia, with ancient rock-carved tombs, an old mud-brick town and sandstone cliffs shaped by the desert.

AlUla lies in a valley of palm groves in north-western Saudi Arabia, surrounded by sandstone mountains that the wind has carved into arches and pillars. Hegra, the first Saudi site listed by UNESCO, preserves more than a hundred monumental tombs cut into the rock by the Nabataeans, the builders of Petra, two thousand years ago. The tomb of Qasr al-Farid stands alone on the sand, carved from a single huge rock.
