Route

  1. We start the tour from Brasov (we pick you up from your location), head to the Seven Ladders Canyon (Canionul Sapte Scari) in the Piatra Mare range, part of the Southern Carpathian Mountains. This stunning gorge is famed for its steep ladders that take you up the rock walls past a series of rushing waterfalls. On arrival, set off along meadow and forest paths, reaching the canyon after a 45-minute hike. Then, opt to rest here or enter the rock chasm with your experienced guide. Head inside, and spend the next 15 minutes or so crossing the bridges and climbing each of the near-vertical metal ladders that make up the gorge. As you go, enjoy thrilling close-up views of the tumbling waters and the towering rock walls around you. After your trek, rejoin your group and choose between a 1.5-hour return route or a harder 2 to 3 hour trail, walking back through forests and glades to your vehicle. After your hike, your tour ends back at your Brașov hotel.

  • 5Climbing with Bogdan

What a fabulous experience. Right from the moment our guide Bodgan picked us up he was so knowledgeable, fun and full of interesting facts and history about the region and Romania. He also gave us some tips about how best to navigate the climb and descent. We chose the longest and toughest climb which was full-on and a real work out but worth it for the views and experience. The ladders section required concentration as it was slippery but a brilliant experience. Bogdan was absolutely fantastic and totally made the experience. Thank you.

  • 5Super morning on the 'seven ladders' canyon

I was a little nervous about committing to this as I sometimes suffer from vertigo. In fact it was not at all problematic and as we made our way up through the canyon we were surrounded by picturesque and dramatic scenery. The walk up to the start of the ladders was not insignificant but very manageable at the right pace. The guide Charlie paced this well despite the mixed ages and we all had a very enjoyable time

  • 5Perfect hike with the perfect guide!

We had the chance to do the Seven Ladders Canyon hike with Bogdan, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our time in Romania. He is incredibly knowledgeable, knows the forest like the back of his hand, and came fully prepared for everything, including the fact that this area is home to wild bears. His experience made us feel safe, comfortable, and well taken care of the entire time. The hike itself isn't super difficult, but it's not a walk in the park either. There are ladders to climb and a moderate amount of hiking, so if you have mobility issues, it's worth talking to your guide beforehand about your limitations. The best part? We started early enough to beat the crowds. We practically had the canyon and ladders all to ourselves, and as we were leaving, lots of people were just arriving. That alone made the experience so much more enjoyable. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking, and if you're looking to spend half a day in nature doing something unique, this is it. We had an amazing time and would absolutely do it again. And if you can, ask for Bogdan. He's exactly the kind of guide you want by your side on this adventure. Note that there is a small fee when you get to the canyon. You can also zip line back. They only take cash. Highly recommend! 🌲🥾🇷🇴

  • 5Best guide and great views!

Had the best hike! The guide was very experienced and told us a lot about the romanian wildlife. We avoided the biggest tourist crowds by starting our hike early and it was deffinitely worth it. I recommend booking the hike straight from Active Travel. We became quite a small group but the hike wasn't cancelled and we had the best time with our small team.

  • 5Amazing views and experiences thanks to Brilliant Bogdan

Highly recommend this trip we had a fantastic time. The canyon was awesome well worth a visit. Once we had gotten through it we were offered a few ways to get back easy medium hard. It was explained Hard would get us to a fantastic view which we did and it was incredible. It was a lot of hard work to get there but well worth it. As good as the views and experience was our guide. Bogdan was fantastic a top guy and genuine person. We had great conversations during the walk and he was also attentive to ensure we were okay. The reason we waited to write this review was Bogdan was really helpful in giving us food and drink suggestions to which we visited all of them and tried to try all the things he mentioned there were no misses they were all great. If you book this trip try and ask for Bogdan you won’t be disappointed his passion for the area is unmatched and you will learn a lot. Thank you again Bogdan

About Brașov

Brașov is a medieval Transylvanian city ringed by the Carpathians, with a Gothic Black Church, a cobbled main square and day trips to Bran Castle.

Brașov lies in a basin of the Carpathian Mountains in central Romania, with the wooded Tâmpa hill rising above its old town. The city was built up by German settlers, the Transylvanian Saxons, and its centre is a tidy grid of baroque houses around Council Square, with the Old Council House in the middle. The Black Church, the largest Gothic church between Vienna and Istanbul, was blackened by a fire in 1689.

Top-ranked sights in Brașov: Black Church (Biserica Neagra), Council Square (Piata Sfatului), Rope Street (Strada Sforii).
