  1. Palenque de San Basilio is community founded by escaped slaves as a refuge in the seventeenth century. Its located in the village of Mahates, 45 minutes from Cartagena. Of the many palenques that existed in former times, only San Basilio has survived until the present day. It developed a unique cultural space. It's considered a small part of Africa in Colombia

About Cartagena

Cartagena, aan de Caribische kust van Colombia, is een ommuurde koloniale havenstad met balkons vol bloemen, kleurrijke pleinen en warme, muzikale avonden.

De ommuurde oude stad, een UNESCO-werelderfgoed, is een doolhof van geplaveide straten en pleinen met huizen in pasteltinten, kerken en bougainvillea. De Klokkentorenpoort leidt naar de Plaza de los Coches, en de kathedraal, de kerk van San Pedro Claver en het Paleis van de Inquisitie liggen allemaal binnen een paar straten. Bij zonsondergang over de dikke wallen lopen is een lokaal ritueel.
