Route

  1. We enter the reopened area of Varosha, once one of the most glamorous tourist destinations in the Mediterranean before 1974. You will walk through streets that remained abandoned for nearly 50 years. Mr John shares personal memories from his childhood — including stories from his own neighborhood and family home. During this part of the tour, a Turkish Cypriot guide from that era also joins, offering a second perspective on the events that shaped the city. This is the emotional heart of the experience — history seen through real lives.

About Famagusta

Famagusta, on Cyprus's east coast, is a walled port with Venetian ramparts, a Gothic cathedral turned mosque and the ruins of ancient Salamis nearby.

Famagusta, known in Turkish as Gazimağusa, lies on the east coast of Cyprus, with the island's deepest harbour. Ptolemy II founded a settlement here in the third century BC, and it grew into a rich port under the Lusignan kings, who ruled from 1192, and then under Genoa and Venice. Ramparts built mostly by the Venetians in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries enclose the old city.
