The Good Friday celebrations are primarily of a religious nature, where the faithful gather in large numbers to commemorate the passion and death of Jesus Christ. On this day, churches are deprived of their traditional ornamental style to give a sombre outlook. In the afternoon, various towns and villages commemorate the Passion of the Christ with a solemn procession of statues. Each statue represents a particular episode in the Passion of the Christ and is carried by bearers.
