Walk through layered gates and winding paths while discovering defensive features such as narrow corridors, hidden spaces, and stone-drop windows. Inside the main keep (tenshu), climb wooden staircases and see weapon racks, arrow openings, storage rooms, and lookout points. Enjoy panoramic views over Himeji city from the top floor before the tour ends inside the castle grounds, where you may continue exploring on your own.
On this tour, participants visit and explore Himeji Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and National Treasure of Japan. Guests walk through the castle grounds and interior while learning about traditional Japanese castle architecture, defensive design, samurai life, and the castle’s historical role. You’ll experience the scale and structure of an original feudal castle and enjoy close-up views of its iconic white exterior, often called the “White Heron Castle,” with time for photos and guided explanations throughout.

Himeji is a castle city in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, dominated by Himeji Castle, a white-walled early seventeenth-century fortress known as the White Heron.
Himeji Castle stands on a low hill above the city's main street, its white plastered walls and layered roofs giving it the name White Heron Castle. The great keep was completed in the early seventeenth century and has come through wars, fires and earthquakes, which is why it was one of the first sites in Japan to be listed by UNESCO. Inside, steep wooden stairs climb through floors of heavy beams to a lookout over the rooftops.
