About Herceg Novi
Herceg Novi is a fortress town at the entrance to Montenegro's Bay of Kotor, with a stepped old town, a seafront promenade and mimosa in winter.
Herceg Novi stands at the mouth of the Bay of Kotor on Montenegro's Adriatic coast, near the Croatian border, its old town stacked on a steep slope above the sea. It was founded in 1382 by the Bosnian king Tvrtko I and passed through Ottoman, Venetian and Austrian hands, leaving a mixture of stone gateways, a clock tower and fortresses such as the Spanish fort Španjola and the sea fort Forte Mare.
