Come on a pub crawl through time, c.1860s to 1920s, with true crime author Michael Shelford. Travel back to a time when Collingwood’s streets were run by youth gangs known as 'larrikin pushes'. A time when Collingwood was considered by police to be “the home of Melbourne’s criminals”, and was also home to Australia’s largest illegal gambling enterprise known as John Wren’s Collingwood Tote. Youth gang wars, murder, shootings, cop bashings, illegal gambling, sly grog shops (speak easies), corruption, and most importantly - booze. Four pubs in three hours. Drinks and food are not included in the price of the tour but can be purchased along the way if you feel hungry or thirsty. Each venue practises responsible service of alcohol.
We meet at the Birmingham Hotel, c.1853, where we sit down for an introduction along with true crime stories and history about the pub and surrounding area. You can purchase food and/or drink if you wish.
We sit down inside the historic Albion Hotel for more history and true crime stories. You can purchase food and/or drink if you wish.
We stop outside the famous Tote Hotel, which is a Melbourne rocknroll institution. We hear about the pub's early history and some true crime stories.
We sit down inside the historic Bendigo Hotel, another famous Melbourne rocknroll venue and also the home to the Mill Brewery for more true crime stories, along with history about the pub and surrounding area. You can purchase food and/or drink if you wish.
We visit the famous sporting ground and historic home to the Collingwood Magpies aussie rules team for some more history and true crime-related stories.
We finish at the magnificent and historic Yarra Hotel where we sit down for the final stories and wrap things up. You can purchase food and/or drinks if you wish to do so.

Melbourne is the capital of Victoria on the Yarra River, known for laneway cafés, street art, grand Victorian buildings and a calendar full of sport.
Melbourne grew rich on the gold rush of the 1850s, and the grand buildings from that time still stand in the grid of the city centre, among them Flinders Street Station with its yellow facade and the domed Royal Exhibition Building. Federation Square and the National Gallery of Victoria stand close to the Yarra, and trams rattle along the main streets. Narrow lanes such as Hosier Lane are covered in ever-changing street art.
Top-ranked sights in Melbourne: Loch Ard Gorge, Twelve Apostles, Great Ocean Road.
