5Reaching the summit of...
Reaching the summit of Chacaltaya under a light snow was exhilarating, and the company of our able and knowledgeable guide, Patty, was a huge incentive.

About El Alto
El Alto is a large city on the high Andean plateau above La Paz, at about 4,000 metres, known for its street markets and Aymara culture.
El Alto grew from a small settlement on the plateau into a large city, and it now sits on the rim of the valley that holds La Paz. Many residents are Aymara, and the city's streets are loud, colourful and busy. The Feria 16 de Julio is a large street market where traders sell clothing, household goods and food.
