This tour was written and researched by academic historians from the University of Oxford and is delivered by trained guides from York. Tour begins outside the dazzling York Minster Cathedral, where we introduce the tour and discuss the staging of heritage sapces.

At our second stop in the historic city centre we introduce the chocolate history of the city and commercialisation.
Walking down the historic street, tellingly named 'pavement' you will learn about the Rowntree Grocer's and the beginnings of international trade networks in the city.
Immerse yourself in the medieval Friargate area and learn about the first female confectionaries in the city.
Finish the tour with an overview of Jewish history in the city, from the early medieval to the modern.

About York
York is a walled cathedral city in northern England, a place of Roman and Viking history, medieval lanes and a vast Gothic minster.
York Minster, among the largest Gothic cathedrals in northern Europe, towers over the city, and its stained glass includes the Great East Window, one of the biggest areas of medieval glass in the country. Medieval walls, the longest in England, encircle the old centre and can be walked along the top. The Shambles, a narrow lane of leaning timber-framed buildings, was once the street of butchers.
