Stockholm is Sweden's capital, spread across islands where Lake Mälaren meets the Baltic, with a medieval old town, royal palaces and a vast archipelago.
Stockholm stands on fourteen islands joined by bridges, with water in nearly every view. Gamla Stan, the medieval Old Town, has cobbled lanes, the Royal Palace, the cathedral Storkyrkan and Stortorget square.
