1. The first place visited is Chichen Itza, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since the 1980s and voted a modern Wonder of the World in 2007. It is considered the most important of the Mayan sites primarily because it has buildings from the two Mayan eras and therefore differing styles of architecture reflecting the changing politics, beliefs and culture from 435AD to the Spanish Conquest in the 16th century, but also for its religious importance to the Maya as a place of pilgrimage. Unlike most guided tours, Señor Travel Bug will take you to the older and newer parts of Chichen Itza and explain their relevance. We drive for approximately 2h45 to arrive at Chichen Itza, depending on pick-up location.

2. Our second stop will typically be to either one or two cenotes, and will be chosen after discussing with the visitor their preferences eg. cliff-jumping, merely floating, seeing cave structures etc and could be before or after lunch depending on hunger and how much time was spent in Chichen Itza (a benefit of a private tour). Visitors can then swim, jump or merely relax in the cool waters of the cenotes that are somewhat unique to this region of the world. We drive for 30-45 minutes after Chichen Itza to arrive this location (depending on the cenote selected reflecting each individual's or group's style (i.e. calm or adventurous style cenote)

3. Either before or after the cenote we will stop to eat lunch, again depending on the visitors' preferences. The food is not included, but the guide will make recommendations from his experience and knowledge reflecting their tastes and budget. This could be (tried and tested) street food, a locals' restaurant where you can visit the kitchen and see tortillas being made, a high end Mayan restaurant or even a pizza place. We will drive for 30-45 minutes to arrive at lunch, depending on the cenote selected for your private tour and the choice of restaurant reflecting the travellers' taste and appetite.

4. The final stop of your Mexican classic tour in a Mexican classic car (or alternative if preferred) is in Valladolid, a Mexican pueblo magic, or 'magic town'. Valladolid is the nearest Spanish colonial town to Cancun and the Riviera Maya, making it well worthwhile visiting to see another 'face' of Mexico. We will wander the most attractive streets of Valladolid, perhaps browsing in its boutiques and also the central square, and we often close out the day with a cool refreshing drink beside the cathedral. We will drive for 5-30 minutes to arrive at Valladolid, and after touring the magic town will drive for approximately 2 hours to return to your pick-up point in Cancun, Puerto Morelos or Playa del Carmen.

• 5Time to stop searching, this is the one!

  Seriously, you can stop searching for tours now. We have been fortunate to go on many tours in different countries with our children. This was THE best. Paul is incredibly knowledgeable and hospitable. He was so accommodating and willing to change the itinerary as one of our children started to not feel well on the tour. He made sure that everyone was taken care of and we learned so much! Paul picked us up from our hotel lobby. He communicated clearly what we should bring with us and what he would bring. He was on time and let us know as he was approaching. It was an absolute pleasure to talk to Paul on the drive to Chichan Itza (which is not a short drive!). He is interesting and engaging. He gave us some relevant history and was able to answer our questions. He partners with a local guide at chichen itza who is brilliant. The other guides were all friendly and it is clear that he is well-liked by the broader community, which speaks to how he interacts with others. We took a long time here asking many questions and shopping with the local artists. Paul never rushed us and gave us as much time as we needed. We went to a fantastic lunch at a small roadside restaurant that was packed with locals (it was a local holiday the day that we went). He is friends with the cooks and one of my children was able to make tortillas with them. The cenote that we went to was great! Paul gave us the inside scoop so that we skipped lines and knew the best ways to have fun there. He tailored the choice of cenote to the interests of our family and the timing of our arrival to ensure the best experience. Our last stop was a town that we ended up not exploring much because one of our children started to not feel well. He adapted the schedule so that our son was more comfortable while making sure that we still got to try the amazing food there. Really, I can not say enough good things about this experience. As a professional researcher, I can assure you that you can stop searching now and just book!

  This was such a great tour! Paul offered customized recommendations and slight detours based on our individual preferences. He was very knowledgeable about all the stops and everything else in between. Based on the above, we definitely got a local taste of the region. Thanks again, Paul!

• 5What a perfect day!

  Our day with Paul was phenomenal. I’m an over-planner and over-thinker, so I connected with Paul months ahead of our trip, and he engaged with me immediately and continued to be a resource for questions prior to us ever meeting! Everything from booking, pick up, the tour itself, and returning to the hotel was super smooth. Zero stress from point to point. The cost of the tour is 100% aligned with value. Our day with Paul was filled with history, cultural insights, humor, and yummy food we would not have discovered without him! Our group of four opted for the Chichen Itza, Cénote, and Valldolid day, and we are so glad we did! We certainly would have booked another day with him exploring other sites and areas if we were here longer! The four of us are the on the big and tall side, so we opted for the Mitsubishi Xpander vehicle over the VERY COOL VW Bug. The ride was comfortable and quiet. This adventure was without a doubt the highlight of our visit, and should we return, we will be seeing Paul again!

  We had an excellent experience with Senior Travel Bug, touring the pyramids, a cenote, and a nearby colonial town with Paul. The entire day was thoughtfully curated and never felt rushed or overly scripted. Paul is incredibly knowledgeable and he brought the history to life in a way that was engaging without being overwhelming, and he adjusted the depth of information based on our interests. What really stood out was how he tailored the pace of the day to us, making it feel like a truly personalized experience rather than a standard tour.
