2. Upon arrival in Vitznau, transfer to the cogwheel train to reach the summit, Rigi Kulm. You’ll have some free time to explore the hiking trails, enjoy a quiet moment at the Rigi Kulm mountain chapel, or grab a bite at one of the local restaurants.

Continue to the car-free village of Rigi Kaltbad by cogwheel train and take a stroll around the village square, where you’ll spot the Mineralbad & Spa, designed by renowned Swiss architect Mario Botta — a true gem for architecture enthusiasts! You can then follow an easy hiking trail with a gentle incline to the Känzeli viewing platform (2 km, optional) and enjoy breathtaking views of the Alpine ranges from a new perspective.

4. Descend by aerial cable car and enjoy the stunning views of Lake Lucerne. Take a short walk downhill to the Weggis boat station, which Mark Twain famously referred to in 1897 as the “most charming place,” and capture the breathtaking scenery of the Lucerne Riviera with your camera.

  Everything went very smoothly! The guide Isabel was great! The views from atop Mt Rigi were spectacular. Everyone should see this once in their lifetime! It is a long day (allow 6-8 hours) but it was a great day!

• 5Mount Rigi Day Trip from Lucerne

  Daniel met us at the pier and guided us through a wonderful day. Our group was 6. Every aspect of the tour was interesting and we had great weather. Views from the lake ferry were beautiful. The cog railway ride was fun. Views from the top of Mount Rigi were fantastic! The gondola ride back down was packed full of people. Never experienced anything quite like that before! The day was something we will always remember!

  The views were spectacular on the boat and at the top of the mountain. Our guide, Rosita, was knowledgeable and gave us lots of pointers. She gave us some history of the area and also gave us lots of time to explore on our own. She checked in often to make sure we were doing okay and to answer any questions. She also made sure we had good seats on the cogwheel and that we were able to sit on the boat. It was a very memorable day on Mt. Rigi. Highly recommend if you want to explore the mountain.

  Wonderful tour during a spectacular day! The views are outstanding! Plenty of time to enjoy the summit. Never felt rushed! We had a great tour guide name Rosita! She was knowledgeable , polite and very caring and concerned about everyone’s welfare! Only negative was the over crowded boat returning to Lucerne but Rosita rounded us all up and got a table in the lounge so we could relax on the way back to town! Go for it!

About Lucerne

Lucerne is a compact Swiss lake city with a covered wooden bridge, a medieval wall and a ring of mountains, in the heart of Switzerland.

Lucerne sits at the northern end of Lake Lucerne, where the Reuss River flows out under two old wooden bridges. The Chapel Bridge, with its stone water tower and painted roof panels, dates from the fourteenth century, although it was partly rebuilt after a fire in 1993. The old town has painted house fronts, squares and the twin-spired Jesuit church, and the Museggmauer, a wall with nine towers, closes it to the north.
