Oceanico is the original dolphin & whale watching organization in Huatulco. There is a maximum of 12 guests for the best views and adventures! Our bilingual crew of Naturalists are passionate and experienced marine wildlife experts. The Ocean Explorer is a 10 meter boat ocean cruiser with cushioned seating and canvas roof that is fast and maneuverable so we can reach the best areas to see the dolphins and whales! We have an underwater microphone to listen to the dolphins and whales too! Oceanico has, by far, the most sightings in Huatulco. 5Exciting, fun and informative.
Our guide was very knowledgeable and fun. He took his time to make sure we had a fantastic experience.
5An Abundance of Ocean Life
What a morning on the ocean! Sea turtles, too many to count, and 2 elusive species; Byrde’s whale and a Leatherback turtle. And just for fun, Dolphins, humpback mother and baby, two kinds of stingrays and a yellow bellied sea snake. The guides were knowledgeable, on time, and are passionate about the ocean.
5It was a truly wonderful and enriching experience from start to finish.
The entire journey was truly magical, made even more special by the incredible expertise of our guide. Their deep knowledge and fascinating, detailed explanations about each species we encountered (from the playful humpback whales to the graceful rays and sea turtles) transformed a simple boat trip into a profound connection with the ocean. It was an absolute privilege to learn so much while witnessing such stunning marine life in its natural hábitat.
2Mostly a boat ride
2.5 hour whale watching. Actually, maybe 1.5 hour looking for sea animals the last 1+ hours the guide just started having conversations with people… not even looking for anything.
3Too Seasick To Enjoy
The seas were very choppy and there were so many participants, two boats were needed. Ours was the more crowded boat, so moving around was limited. I was one of a few of the participants who got seasick. Despite seeing two leatherback turtles, many small rays, and a humpback whale, I did not enjoy the excursion for obvious reasons. 🤢

- Meet 10 minutes before tours at the Chahué Marina dock entrance. Boat leaves on time - no refunds or rescheduling if you miss the boat! All hotels & resorts in Huatulco have taxis. Taxi's are inexpensive with set rates. We'll call a taxi for you afterwards. There are bathrooms at the marina.

Huatulco is a Pacific resort area on Oaxaca's coast, a string of nine bays with sheltered beaches, coral reefs and dry forest, with coffee hills behind.
Huatulco is a planned resort on the Pacific coast of Oaxaca, developed from the 1980s along a series of nine bays with sheltered beaches and clear water. Behind the coast lie the foothills of the Sierra Madre del Sur. Santa Cruz Bay, the main one, has a marina, a small waterfront of restaurants and a pier where cruise ships dock, while Tangolunda Bay is the resort and golf area.
