Itinerario

  1. Youngstorget has become a symbol of political power in Norway. Multiple political speeches are held here, as well as political rallies like the women’s march on March 8th or gay pride. Due to the square’s proximity to the Government quarter, the area around the square includes the headquarters of many political organisations.

    10 min

  2. Torggata translates to “Square Street”. The street is represented in the Norwegian edition of Monopoly.

    10 min

  3. The Culture Church is rented long-term by Kirkelig Kulturverksted and is one of few churches of culture in Norway where guests can watch theatre, and concerts, come to dance and partake in other cultural expressions.

    10 min

  4. Akerselva (Aker River) is a river that flows through Oslo, it is known as "Oslo's green lung" with the many parks and nature trails found by its sides.

    10 min

  5. After crossing Akerselva and the Fairytale Bridge, you have officially entered Grünerløkka. The area is a traditional working-class district, but during the late 1900s, a gentrification process started taking place in the neighbourhood.

    10 min

  6. The park is surrounded by three- and four-story buildings, primarily built in the late 1800s. Among the most notable inhabitants of these buildings was a young Edvard Munch. Alongside the park, you’ll find one of Oslo’s most famous concert venues today, the Parkteatret.

    10 min

  7. The surrounding area by alternative music venue Blå is one of the highlights of Oslo’s street art offering (don’t forget your camera!)

    10 min

  8. The area is filled with old, unused industrial buildings, which have been transformed into a street art paradise by local art students.

    10 min

  9. The wooden houses along Damstredet are well-preserved and inhabited. The charming hillside houses make for a great photo stop.

    10 min

  10. Our Saviour’s Church is the resting place for many famous Norwegians, including playwright Henrik Ibsen and painter Edvard Munch.

    15 min

  11. Old Aker Church (Gamle Aker Kirke) is Oslo's oldest remaining building and the only remaining church from the Middle Ages.

    10 min

  12. Telthusbakken, with its colourful wooden houses, is the motif of one of Edward Munch’s paintings. Today, around 50 people live on one side of the street, and on the other side, there are allotment gardens.

About Oslo

Oslo is Norway's capital at the head of the Oslofjord, a green city of sculpture, Viking ships, polar-ship museums, an opera house and forests for skiing.

Oslo sits at the head of the Oslofjord, surrounded by forested hills and dotted with islands, and it is one of Europe's greenest capitals. The waterfront has the Opera House, a white marble building with a sloping roof that visitors can walk on, and Akershus Fortress, a medieval castle above the harbour. City Hall, a brick building with large murals, is where the Nobel Peace Prize is presented each December.

Top-ranked sights in Oslo: Akershus Castle (Akershus Slott), Oslo Royal Palace (Kongelige Slott), Oslo City Hall (Radhuset).
