2. Set in the middle of the park’s elaborate Moorish-style gardens, Plaza de España was built in a classic Renaissance Revival style, and is now home to several important Government buildings. Its semi-elliptic floor is surrounded by an estuary that separates the inner plaza by a marble banister. Four tiled brick bridges, representing different regions of Spain, allow access across the estuary.

3. “Bairro de Santa Cruz” the famous Jewish quarter located in the city center, surrounded by beautiful and big houses, palaces and white backyards smelling like flowers. Wander around Santa Cruz, admiring its cluster of whitewashed houses and lively tapas bars that spill onto the streets.

4. Stop at least for photos outside Seville Cathedral, one of the world’s largest Gothic cathedrals.

5. The Cathedral and the “Alcazar” Palace – originally a Moorish fort and once the Royal family residence. This palace is one of the best remaining examples of “Mudéjar” architecture, a style under Christian rule in Spain using Islamic architectural influence. Walk around the outside of Real Alcazar Palace, home of King Juan Carlos, and admire its array of architectural styles that range from Moorish to Neoclassical. The entrance is not included and please be careful with the time if you decided to use all you free time in Seville (3 hours) to visit the palace.

6. Sightsee independently, shop for souvenirs or relax over lunch in one of the city’s atmospheric tapas bars (own expense); how you enjoy your free time is up to you! Then, meet your guide at the prearranged time and travel back to your hotel in the Algarve where your day trip finishes. 7. Explore Maria Luisa Park, and hear how its centerpiece square and palace complex Plaza de España was created for the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition World’s Fair.

About Albufeira

Albufeira is a former fishing town on Portugal's Algarve coast, with whitewashed old streets, sandy coves below red cliffs and a long summer season.

Albufeira was a fishing town under Moorish rule, its name coming from the Arabic for a lagoon, and its old town still climbs a hill above the water in a tangle of whitewashed alleys and arches. A tunnel leads down to the Fishermen's Beach, where boats once landed their catch, and the clock tower and parish church stand in the centre.
