  • 5Excellent trip - well worth going to see!

Excellent trip with lots to see at the lighthouse and on the boat journey. whole trip was around 2.5 hours - there was only a small number of passengers on my trip, so we were able to move around the boat freely and take pictures, The boat crew were really great, and talked to us during the trip about what we could see on the islands and at the lighthouse. Glad I took warm/waterproof clothes - the journey was very windy with a lot of spray on the way back. Would definitely recommend!

  • 5A great way to spend a couple of hours !!!

Lovely afternoon out on the Golden Gate boat, out to Longstone Lighthouse. Sea was nice and calm which was a definite bonus. Craig and George were our boatmen and guides. Excellent commentary throughout and we saw gannets, black backed gulls, cormorants, shags and a couple of herons on the island. Unfortunately wrong time of the year for some birds, such as puffins. Plenty of seals too, mainly just popping their heads out of the water. A great fun trip but with history and nature thrown in too. Would definitely recommend but perhaps earlier in the year.

  • 5Longstone Tour - wonderful

We had a great time, George and Rachel were very welcoming and knowledgeable. It was a wonderful afternoon seeing lots of seabirds, but my highlight was seeing the seals! Two of our party went into the Longstone lighthouse which they enjoyed especially my daughter as she had learnt about Grace Darling at school! We felt it was really good value to see some amazing sights!! I would highly recommend this trip!

  • 5A very enjoyable and interesting trip.

We had a fantastic trip to Longstone Lighthouse. The boat trip itself was well organised and took around 45 mins each way. It was great to be able to walk inside the lighthouse and see Grace Darling’s bedroom where she spotted the wrecked ship which led her to rescue the drowning passengers. We were lucky enough to have a friendly seal pop up to see us a few times which was great for the children. The puffins had already left the islands as it’s a bit late in the year for them, but we really did enjoy the trip and would recommend it.

About Newcastle-upon-Tyne

Newcastle upon Tyne is a river city in north-east England, with a Norman castle keep, a row of bridges over the Tyne and a revived quayside.

Newcastle grew around a Roman bridge crossing and takes its name from the castle begun here in 1080 by Robert Curthose, son of William the Conqueror. The stone keep still stands above the railway, beside the Black Gate. The Tyne is crossed by the Swing Bridge, the High Level Bridge and the steel arch of the Tyne Bridge, and Grainger Town has classical streets of the 1830s with Grey's Monument at their heart.
