The Falls of Feugh are a picturesque series of cascades on the Water of Feugh, the largest tributary of the River Dee . The footbridge over the river, offers a perfect vantage point to watch salmon leaping upstream during their spawning seasons.
Cairn o’ Mount is a historic hill‑pass in Aberdeenshire—once an ancient drovers’ and military route connects Deeside with the Howe of the Mearns. Today, the twisting, narrow road climbs through forested slopes, emerging into open moorland before reaching the summit viewpoint . The peak rewards us with sweeping, panoramic views—looking east to the North Sea and south over the Mearns.
Dunnottar Castle is a dramatic and historic ruin perched on a cliff overlooking the North Sea. From sacred site to family home and latter a military fortress, this castle has played a significant role in Scottish history, including sheltering the Scottish Crown Jewels. The castle's stunning location and rich history make it a must-visit for those exploring the region. Explore the grounds, the view points and bay during this stop.
Stonehaven is a charming coastal town offering a mix of history and natural beauty. Start by visiting one of the many lovely places to have some lunch. If in doubt ask us for a recommendation. From fresh seafood to tasty traditional meals or snack, there is something for everyone. Then take a stroll around the picturesque Stonehaven Harbour, and along the sandy beach and admire the sculptures along the boardwalk.
One of the few oat mills remaining in Aberdeenshire. The mill buildings are not only Category A listed, but also described by Historic Environment Scotland as ‘an exceptional and rare survival’. The Mill of Benholm comprises of the mill with the waterwheel and kiln, the former miller’s house and byre, a mill pond all in a beautiful and peaceful setting with approx. 7 acres of land, orchards and gardens. The ancient Mill Brae Woods are separated from the mill complex by the Burn of Benholm.
Gourdon is a small, traditional fishing village known for its harbour, where you can still see local fishermen at work, it offers a glimpse into Scotland's fishing heritage.
Girdle Ness Lighthouse, located on the outskirts of Aberdeen, is an iconic coastal landmark overlooking Greyhope Bay and Aberdeen harbours. Greyhope Bay, with its rocky shoreline and sweeping sea views, is a popular spot for walkers and wildlife enthusiasts, offering the chance to spot dolphins and seabirds.

Alex was an amazing and down to earth guide. We were a small group (3 people) and we had a lovely time exploring Scotland. The views were amazing as we were lucky for the blue skies in the morning. You learn so much from the castle and different coastal harbours. We even got to try Irn Bru, Rowie and shared whisky (without the E) as he taught us.
5A very lovely day...
A very lovely day exploring the area around Aberdeen. The guide Alex was great fun and very knowledgeable
5Great tour guide Alex
Loved seeing the different coastal towns of Aberdeenshire, and Dunnottar Castle was a magnificent sight to see, must not be missed. Our tour guide Alex (pronounced Alec!) was very knowledgeable about the area, its agriculture and industry, and knew all the spots to go. We were traveling with a family member with an injured ankle and he gave her special attention while the rest of us climbed up and down the 250 steps of the castle, which made her feel very included and happy. Thanks Alex!!
5Dunnatar Castle
Alex was a very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable guide. As the castle was temporarily closed when we passed by, he decided to bring us for lunch instead and we came back afterwards for the castle. Lunch was very good; in a small restaurant near the water. He adapted to the current situation and we were very happy about it. Castle views were amazing! It was a very nice excursion. Thank you
5Incredible day at Dunottar Castle

5Tour Guide Jamie well recommended
Aberdeenshire continues to surprise me with its breathtaking coastline, rich history, and hidden gems. Sometimes the smallest villages leave the biggest impressions.

About Aberdeen
Aberdeen is a granite city on Scotland's north-east coast, with a historic university, a fishing and oil port, beaches and castles in the countryside.
Aberdeen stands between the rivers Dee and Don on the North Sea, a city built of grey granite that glints with mica in the sun. Old Aberdeen, with its cobbled High Street, the crown tower of King's College chapel and St Machar's Cathedral, preserves a medieval university town, while Marischal College, a vast neo-Gothic granite frontage, looks over Broad Street. Footdee, a small fishing community of low cottages, sits by the harbour mouth.
Top-ranked sights in Aberdeen: Slains Castle, Crathes Castle, Drum Castle, Garden & Estate.
