  2. Listen to your guide regale stories about the history of the town and cathedral. You’ll hear medieval tales from Canterbury writers, Geoffrey Chaucer and Christopher Marlowe, as well as stories of the Reformation and the Blitz. Then, enjoy some free time exploring the town on your own and visiting Canterbury Cathedral if you wish (own expense) After two hours in Canterbury, we'll travel over the Weald of Kent – a high ridge – and head down to Leeds Castle.

  3. Famously referred to as 'the loveliest castle in the world' and founded in the 9th century, Leeds Castle is best known as a palace for numerous queens of England. Along the way, hear fascinating commentary from your guide about the monarchs and the fate that befell them! Spend three hours at the beautiful castle, set on two islands on a lake, and explore its remarkable interior as well as the grounds and gardens with your guide. Admire rooms such as the library and banquet hall, and be amazed by the one-of-a-kind museum of ornate dog collars! Outdoors, walk through the complicated maze and enjoy the grotto and water features. If you wish, dine on a leisurely lunch in one of the cafés or restaurants overlooking the grounds (own expense).

  • 5Canterbury and Leeds Castle

Excellent way to combine sightseeing with transport from the ship. Canterbury was a beautiful town and the cathedral was breathtaking. I wish we'd had a little more time in the town. Leeds Castle was elegant and we enjoyed strolling around the grounds as well. The guide and bus driver were excellent as well. In all, a great experience!

  • 5Excellent trip

Loved Liz and her expert bus lectures. Only issue was how far the feeder car route to Heathrow was. After the bus dropped us off the car ride was an additional 1.5 hours. At least it took us through central London and the sites. The car was immaculate.

  • 3We picked up this...

We picked up this excursion after the cruise as a way to see more sights and to get back to London. It was an enjoyable tour but did have some hiccups.

  • 5Our driver was excellent....

Our driver was excellent. He had knowledge of the area that he shared and was very communicative about the plan for the day and the timings. Leeds Castle and grounds were beautiful, with many fun activities to keep us going.

  • 5Thorough and professional

This was a very nice way to get from our cruise ship to our hotel. There were ten people in the van and our tour guide was delightful. She found us at the cruise terminal and we were dropped at our hotel. The tour of Canterbury and Leeds Castle were very nice. One thing I would point out is that quite a bit of walking was involved, probably close to 6 miles in all, on our particular trip it was a very hot day so this impacted the activity.

About Dover

Dover is the Kent port town beneath the white cliffs, with a hilltop castle, ferries to France and a Bronze Age boat in its museum.

Dover lies where the chalk of the North Downs meets the sea, and on a clear day the French coast is visible across the narrowest part of the English Channel. Dover Castle, which crowns the hill, has a twelfth-century keep built for Henry II, a Roman lighthouse in its grounds and tunnels dug into the cliff that served as naval headquarters during the Dunkirk evacuation. Ferries still leave from one of Europe's busiest ports.
