The Artists' Colony was founded by Duke Ernst Ludwig along with other seven artists. It is the reason why Darmstadt is now included among the Jugendstil metropolises of Europe, such as Paris, Brussels, Vienna, Glasgow, and Barcelona.
Russian Chapel, designed by the architect Louis Benois, as an homage to the good relationship between the Hessen-Darmstadt and Romanovs families.
Hessian State Museum Darmstadt, is one of the few universal museums in the world, with its various collections of art and cultural history, geology, paleontology, and zoology.
