2. Puerto Limón, commonly known as Limón, is the capital city and main hub of Limón province, as well as of the cantón of Limón in Costa Rica. It is the seventh largest city in Costa Rica, with a population of over 55,000, and is home of the Afro-Costa Rican community. The caribbean province is a natural paradise, formed by a combination of dense jungles, imposing mountains, and paradisiac beaches. Limón is Costa Rica's main Caribbean port, an Afro-Caribbean city on a humid coast and the gateway to Tortuguero's canals and the Cahuita reef.

Puerto Limón is Costa Rica's principal Caribbean port, a cargo harbour and provincial capital where the coast curves beneath green hills and rain clouds. Many of its people descend from Jamaican and other West Indian workers who came in the nineteenth century to build the railway to San José, and their English-influenced Creole, music and cooking shape the city.
