5Overall amazing Leticia and Amazona experience!
Overall great experience, with an itinerary full of activities from morning to evening. I did this experience solo and they were great at taking it at my own pace and comfort. Also had a highly educated and experience tour guide (Eliseo) who was very informative throughout the experience. I would highly suggest the immersion with the Oxigeno Amazonas team!
5Unforgettable Private Amazon Experience
If you are looking for an incredible Amazon Jungle experience, look no further than Oxigeno Amazonas. They handled every detail perfectly, from seamless airport transfers, comfortable lodging, and delicious meals to custom itinerary adjustments. The team felt like family by the end of my journey. Arrival in Leticia: Carlos greeted me at the Leticia airport, we explored Leticia Central Park in the evening to witness thousands of wild parrots gathering at dusk, before he brought me to my hotel. Day 1: Into the Jungle & Night Safari I took a 2-hour boat ride to Puerto Nariño to meet the team: Darwis (owner), Will (interpreter), and Chael (jungle expert). We hiked deep into the jungle to our cabin base. Went on an evening safari to spot wildlife at night. The highlight for me was seeing the bioluminescent leaves glowing like stars on the forest floor. Day 2: Lake Tarapoto We hiked through the jungle and spotted massive Pirarucu fish and the majestic Dragon fish in the pond. Headed to Lake Tarapoto for swimming, fishing, and night caiman spotting under a stunning sunset. Day 3: Crossing into Peru We crossed the Amazon River into Peru, spotting pink dolphins, sloths and wild capybaras. Returned to Puerto Nariño to visit the local museum for a private tour on indigenous mythology and river life. Enjoyed a local dinner before resting at the hotel. Day 4: Monkey Sanctuary & Kayaking We visited Caserio Mocagua to see the local monkey populations. Stopped by the community of San Francisco, a custom trip request they easily added to my itinerary. Finished the afternoon kayaking on the lake. Day 5: Observation Tower & Return to Leticia Climbed the Puerto Nariño observation tower for panoramic views and browsed local artisan shops. Took the boat back to Leticia, where Carlos met me at the port and escorted me to my hotel. Bonus: Exploring Leticia & Brazil Bought fresh piranha with Carlos at the local market and found a nearby restaurant to cook it for lunch. Visited the Leticia museum and ended the trip with a quick cross-border excursion to Tabatinga, Brazil. I did some exploration on my own in Tabatinga, Carlos sent me off to the airport the next day. A massive thank you to the Oxigeno Amazonas team for making this trip unforgettable!
5A very special 5 days
From my first communications with Karla I was confident that I was making a great choice with Oxigeno Amazonas and that is exactly how I still feel after my trip. At all times I felt safe and extremely well cared for by everyone involved, Carlos in Leticia who coped brilliantly with my total lack of Spanish, Darwis who checked in on me every day and of course my fantastic guide Willy and translator Lucas who did everything possible to ensure I had the best experience during my 5 days in and around Puerto Narino. Every day lived up to expectations, and beyond. There were the "wow" moments, the wildlife, the mighty Amazon river, river dolphins, night hikes/lake trips. My wish was to see a sloth - we saw 9 - I am still smiling when I think of that! But having had some time to reflect and process all of the experiences I realise that for me, just as important as those big moments were so many others; being surrounded by the noise of the jungle, catching sight of a column of leaf cutter ants, lying in a hammock watching children jumping into a lake, seeing families travelling up and down the river in canoes, witnessing a village meeting first thing in the morning, learning how communities are holding on to their traditions whilst being part of modern Columbia, the list is endless. Because this trip is so authentic and genuinely immerses you in local life I felt more than an onlooker, and to share in this life for a few days is one of the greatest privileges I have experienced and is how I have interpreted "the jungle coming to me". I cannot recommend Oxygenos Amazonas highly enough, they deliver everything they promise.
5Incredible trip with surprises at every turn! Our guide and interpreter did a wonderful job!
We had a great trip! Made so many amazing memories!!traveled with three adult kids and us parents. The guides always made us feel safe
57 day customized private tour - totally worth it
Oxigeno Amazonas organized a customized private tour of 7 days and nights for our family of 4. It exceeded our expectations and was impeccably organized. Karla and Darwis, who run Oxigeno Amazonas, are warm, generous, responsive and professional. We had one main guide, Brendan, and local guides for some of the activities. Brendan was extremely knowledgeable and went out of his way to try to accommodate our wildlife interests (we are biologists and were keen to see certain species), and the other local guides were all excellent. Our interpreter, Oscar, was friendly, chill, very interesting and always helpful. What set this tour apart for us was staying in several different communities (including home stay, and cabin in Amacayacu NP) rather than a hotel in Puerto Narino or Leticia. It enabled us to have some more genuine interactions and connections, as well as experience the usual Amazon activities (all super interesting and fun). And we got to see amazing wildlife! 10 out of 10.
5This was so much more than an organised tour. It was an unforgettable adventure with new friends.
As a solo traveller age 60, I was apprehensive about venturing into the Amazon. But from the moment Don Carlos met me at Leticia Airport until the moment he dropped me off six days later, Oxigeno Amazonas was with me every step of the way. Lukas my interpreter and Cheo my guide, treated me to a perfect blend of nature, culture, history, fantastic food and fun in this most beautiful part of the world. There were too many highlights to list here, but the night safari onto Lake Tarapoto was one of the most magical experiences of my life. Fireflies! Bats! Insects! Frogs! Raucous night birds, jumping fish, and shiny-eyed caimans! And all illuminated under a Universe I’ve never seen shine so brightly. From staying overnight in the indigenous villages to spotting Pink and Tucuxi dolphins on the Amazon River, I experienced emotions and a sense of absolute wonder that I have rarely felt since childhood. Bonus experience: Spend an extra day in Leticia to explore the town, walk into Brazil, and return in time to experience the tens of thousands of Canary-winged Parakeets arriving to roost in Leticia's Santander Park. A huge thanks to Karla, Darwis, Lukas, Carlos, Don Carlos, Cheo, and all the local guides and chefs who made this such a memorable trip.
Leticia is a town on the Amazon River at Colombia's southern tip, reachable only by air or water, with the Brazilian and Peruvian borders close by.
Leticia is the capital of the Amazonas department, on the north bank of the Amazon River where Colombia, Brazil and Peru meet. No road links it to the rest of Colombia, so people arrive by plane or by boat. It runs straight into the Brazilian town of Tabatinga, with no obvious boundary in the streets, and a short boat ride crosses the river to Peru.
