This independent guide answers the questions people ask most before riding the Big Bus in Dubai. The city's two loop routes split neatly into an old-and-new downtown circuit and a coastal run, so the answers below focus on which sights each route reaches, how long the loops take, what to expect in the heat and how to think about tickets.

Before you ride

Start by matching your sights to stops. Burj Khalifa, Dubai Frame, Gold Souk and Spice Souk are all reached by the Red City Route, which also calls at Museum of the Future, Bastakiya, Al Fahidi Fort and Old Souk. The Blue Beach Route has stops at Dubai Marina, Souk Madinat Jumeirah, the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall area and Atlantis The Palm. If you want both routes in one day, plan the change at the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall area, where the two routes meet.

Choosing a ticket

Several operators run hop-on hop-off products in Dubai, nine in total, and the commentary across them covers twelve languages. Products differ in how long they last and what they bundle, so compare the ticket pages side by side rather than judging by the bus alone. Read each ticket page for the route it describes and what it includes before you settle on one.

Questions about Big Bus Dubai

Is the Big Bus worth it in Dubai?

It suits visitors who want an orientation loop across very different parts of the city, from downtown towers to the souks. The Red City Route links Burj Khalifa, Dubai Frame and the Gold and Spice souks in one loop, which saves a lot of cross-town taxi trips. If coast time is your priority, the Blue Beach Route is the better fit.

How long does a route take?

For the Blue Beach Route, the timing is set out on its ticket page, so check there before planning around it.

Where does the bus start?

Choose the stop that suits your first sight. The Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall area is the point where the two routes can be joined.

Can I switch between routes?

Yes, the two routes can be joined at the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall area, which is the natural place to change between them. Whether a given ticket lets you ride both routes is set out on that ticket's page. Plan the change at that stop if you want the old city and the coast in one day.

Can children ride the Big Bus?

The Blue route's mall and marina stops give air-conditioned breaks between sights, while the Red route's Dubai Frame and souks give older children more to look at. Age rules for children are set out on each ticket page.

Is the Big Bus wheelchair accessible?

Accessibility details should be confirmed before you book rather than assumed. Check the ticket page for mobility information, and contact the operator directly if you use a wheelchair or mobility aid.

Does the bus go to Atlantis The Palm?

Atlantis The Palm is a named stop on the Blue Beach Route; check the ticket page to confirm how that part of the route is served. Check the ticket page for the route's stop list before you commit a morning to it.

Does the bus reach Burj Al-Arab Jumeirah?

Souk Madinat Jumeirah is on the Blue route and is close enough to walk from, so pairing the two is an easy plan.

When is the best time to ride?

The cooler months from about November to March suit an open-top bus best, and January, the coolest month, has highs around 24 C. Summer is far hotter, with August highs near 40 C and high humidity, so early morning is the more tolerable time to ride. Bring water and sun protection, because open-top seats in Dubai heat can be hard going.

Is the Big Bus better than a walking tour?

A walking plan wins for the older core, since Gold Souk, Spice Souk, Bur Dubai Village and Al Fahidi sit close enough together for a half-day on foot. The bus earns its place when you need distance covered, such as linking Burj Khalifa with Dubai Marina or reaching Souk Madinat Jumeirah. Many visitors combine the two, walking the old quarters and riding the bus to the coast.

How long is a ticket valid?

Validity differs between products, and each ticket page states its own period. Pick based on how many hours or days you expect to ride. Confirm the exact length on the page before you decide.

Does a Big Bus ticket include attraction entry?

Entry to attractions is separate from riding the bus, and whether any entry is bundled depends on the product. Read the ticket page for what it covers before you assume you will get into Burj Khalifa or Dubai Frame.
