During the 18th century it was the capital of Croatia, and a popular center for nobility and aristocracy to exhibit luxury through their palaces and the popular architectural styles of the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. It is a town of gorgeous Central European architectural styles, reminiscent of charming Austrian towns. On this tour we will thoroughly explore the city center in order to truly feel and understand Varazdin, its history, but also its present. Zagreb has two historic halves. The Upper Town, Gornji Grad, sits on a hill with cobbled lanes, the tiled-roof church of St Mark and the Lotrščak Tower, from which a cannon is fired at noon each day.
