Trekking: The Sentiero del Principe is an interesting excursion that starts from the historic center of Salerno to reach the Arechi Castle. This is a path that blends local medieval history with the surrounding natural space. During the Middle Ages, Salerno was the capital of an important Lombard kingdom. The city was the headquarters of the first medical school for that period and considered the embryo of modern universities. Once you reach the Castle, you will have a splendid view over the city and the beginning of the Amalfi Coast. About Salerno

Salerno is a port city at the eastern end of the Amalfi Coast, with a Norman cathedral, a palm-lined seafront and a castle on the hill above.

Salerno curves around a gulf with a long palm-lined waterfront, the Lungomare, and a medieval centre of narrow lanes behind it. The cathedral, begun in the eleventh century under the Norman duke Robert Guiscard, has an arcaded atrium and a tall bell tower, and the city was home to the Schola Medica Salernitana, one of the earliest medical schools in Europe. Above, Arechi Castle looks out over the bay.
