About Stepantsminda
Stepantsminda, also called Kazbegi, is a mountain village in northern Georgia beneath Mount Kazbek, with a hilltop church and the old Military Road.
Stepantsminda lies at about 1,700 metres in the Greater Caucasus, in the valley of the Terek River, on the Georgian Military Road that climbs from Tbilisi over the Jvari Pass towards the Russian border. Mount Kazbek, a dormant volcano of 5,054 metres, rises to the west of the village with glaciers below its summit.
