According to tradition after the crucifixion of Jesus, St John brought Mother Mary to Ephesus with him to hide and escape persecution.

Outside the house is a “wishing wall” which pilgrims have used by tying their intentions on paper or fabric. A water source is also located nearby, believed to have miraculous healing powers. The shrine was visited by several popes.

About Bodrum

Bodrum, on Turkey's Aegean coast, is a whitewashed harbour town beneath a Crusader castle, with ancient ruins and coves, facing the Greek island of Kos.
