Highlights
The tour starts with a pickup service from the hotels in the center of Bonito, to go to the Bodoquena region, where our adventure begins. At the Boca da Onca farmhouse, we will be greeted by specialized guides, highly trained and experienced, that will accompany us on our 4 km long ecological walk. The trails are well equipped and take us deeper and deeper into the Pantanal to explore the wonderful running-water pools, where we can enjoy a refreshing bath in its crystal clear waters. Then, we continue our trek to pass through 11 waterfalls, each more spectacular than the one before. One of those waterfalls is Boca da Onca, the highest in the state with its 156m high. Then, we get back to the ranch, so that you can recharge your energies, and relax with the sound of the running water. Also, you can feel free to use the facilities of the ranch: a bar and restaurant, dressing rooms, bathrooms, a pool, and a hammock.

5Waterfall during rainy season
Boca da Onca was a wonderful and fun tour with many beautiful sights a places to swim. I went when it had rained heavily the day before and although the trail was slightly muddy the views were still very impressive, I believe it made the waterfalls appear even more beautiful and the mist of the clouds over the mountains made it magnificent. The stairs going up was not too bad and you could go at your own pace, it is only steep in some sections. The tour guide and the group were accommodating to me as a gringa with limited Portuguese. I would say this activity is best taken as the only one for the day as there is a lot of walking and some swimming. I would however like to mention that I did not appreciate being asked personal questions from my guide as a solo female traveller, despite this I had a really good time and felt respected by everyone otherwise.
5What a fantastic day. Just do it, you won’t regret it
When we booked it I thought it was a bit expensive, but I was so wrong. The day started off with a reasonable drive from Bonito. The resort is beautiful and I could have spent the day there without doing the trail. You are provided with a great breakfast and then you are loaded onto the back of a truck to start the adventure. We went for the 4.5km trail and the sites were spectacular. Our guide, Andre, was superb and he kept us safe and took lots of pictures for us while we swam in waterfalls etc. He really couldn’t have done anymore to make the trip the best. Actually all the staff were excellent. Wildlife wise we didn’t see too much, but we did see an anteater, emas, big lizards, an alligator and armadillos. When you get back to the resort you get a lunch which was Brazilian food and very good. One small warning, at the end of the trail there is an 886 step staircase to climb. This was tough in the heat but doable if you take it steady. There are pause points. We have some fantastic pictures and I would thoroughly recommend the tour.
3Needs Transparency regarding Rental Fees
The Boca da Onca Waterfall Tour was impressive and fantastic, and tour guide was very enthusiastic to deliver the information on the falls and their vicinity in English as much as possible to foreigners who do not know Portuguese language. But the rental window of aqua shoes and locker could be much more improved in its transparency of cost and other operations. There were no signs and no notice of rental fees at all, even when returning the rental items. In addition they sent me a Portuguese message requesting me to remit the fees, which I do not know correct or not, to the company's bank account, after I returned to my hotel. It was a non-sense for the foreigners who do not understand Portuguese language and have no way to remit in Brazil. Although I remitted the fees with the help of my tour agent at the hotel, I felt this rental fee collecting process was really inconvenient and absurd.

The town is small, a base for the ranches and nature reserves around it.
