It also baffles me how you can be at the beach enjoying the warm weather and 15 minutes later, up in the highest point of Puerto Plata, overlooking the city and surrounded by an entirely different ecosystem and cool weather. About Puerto Plata
Puerto Plata is a seaside city on the Dominican Republic's north coast, with a cable car up Mount Isabel de Torres, a Spanish fort and Victorian houses.
Puerto Plata sits on the Atlantic coast in the shadow of Isabel de Torres, a green mountain topped with a statue of Christ and reached by cable car. In town, the sixteenth-century San Felipe Fortress guards the seafront Malecón, and the old centre keeps wooden Victorian houses painted in bright colours around the central park. The Amber Museum displays Dominican amber, often with insects trapped inside.
