The view from the spacious observation deck on the 2970-metre-high Schilthorn summit is breathtaking in the truest sense of the word. About Interlaken
Interlaken sits between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz in the Swiss Alps, the base for the Jungfrau region's peaks, waterfalls, trains and adventure sports.
Interlaken lies on a flat strip of land between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, which gave the town its name, with the Aare river running through it. A broad meadow, the Höhematte, faces the Jungfrau, a snow-covered peak often visible on clear days. The town grew in the 19th century as a resort, and grand hotels and a promenade, the Höheweg, remain from that time.
