About Niš
Niš is a historic city in southern Serbia, the birthplace of the Roman emperor Constantine the Great and home to a fortress from Ottoman times.
Niš lies on the Nišava river in a wide basin, and it has been a settlement since antiquity. The Ottoman fortress on the riverbank still has its walls and gates, and the Skull Tower, a monument built in 1809 from the skulls of Serbian rebels as a warning, stands in a small chapel on the edge of the city. The airport is named for Constantine the Great.
