It is not known with certainty the date of the beginning of its construction but some historians suppose that it was between the years 1714 and 1755 and is attributed to Jerome Quezada and Garçon. It originally served as a church of the order of the Jesuits. Here the Jesuit priests gave Mass with their backs to the congregation so that all, including the priests, would be facing the figure of Jesus Christ and the altar. The National Pantheon has around 36 spaces
