About Athlone
Athlone is a market town on the River Shannon in Ireland's midlands, with a Norman castle, Lough Ree to the north and Clonmacnoise nearby.
Athlone stands on both banks of the River Shannon at the heart of Ireland, and the town straddles the border between Westmeath, in Leinster, and Roscommon, in Connacht.
