The Puente de Occidente was built in 1895, so named because it is located in western Antioquia, is a Colombian suspension hanging bridge that connects the towns of Olaya and Santa Fe de Antioquia, to the east and west of the Cauca River, respectively. At the time it was considered the seventh most important suspension bridge in the world. Puente de Occidente was the longest of its kind in the entire subcontinent, and that is why historically and culturally it has been so important, being at the time a cornerstone in the development of the region and the country. 2. Santa Fe de Antioquia is a Colombian town that holds the most important historical treasures of the colonial and republican period in the department of Antioquia. Santa Fe de Antioquia was founded in 1541 and for more than two centuries was one of the main centers of economic and urban development in the region. This is attested by its architecture: spacious colonial-style houses with mostly white facades, double-height buildings with balconies and carved wooden doors.
