  1. The Colossi of Memnon are two massive stone statues standing on the west bank of the Nile in Luxor, Egypt. Dating back over 3,400 years, they once guarded the entrance to the mortuary temple of Pharaoh Amenhotep III. Each statue rises about 18 meters high and depicts the king seated on his throne, facing the rising sun. Though the temple behind them has largely disappeared, the Colossi remain a powerful symbol of ancient Egypt’s architectural skill and royal grandeur.

  3. Drive to the mortuary temple of Queen Hatshepsut. She is the first female pharaoh in ancient Egypt who ruled the kingdom for 20 prosperous years. This temple is called El Deir el Bahari as the early Christians used the Northern monastery, as it was a Coptic monastery. Unlike the other temples, this one was built of limestone and partly hewn in the mother bedrock. It has three terraces and its focal point is to tell the story of the Divine birth of the Queen. After your tour, relax as you’re driven back to Safaga Port and dropped off beside your cruise ship, marking the end of an unforgettable day in Luxor.

About Safaga

Safaga is a Red Sea port town in Egypt, south of Hurghada, known for its reefs, windy lagoons and as a starting point for Luxor and the Eastern Desert.

Safaga lies on the Red Sea coast of Egypt about sixty kilometres south of Hurghada, between the sea and the bare mountains of the Eastern Desert. It began as a phosphate port and still has a working harbour, and a string of resorts has grown up along the sandy bay. The water is clear, the reefs start close to shore, and steady winds make the area popular for windsurfing and kitesurfing.
