  5. Built in the 15th and 16th centuries, in Manueline-Mudejar and Renaissance style, to replace an earlier Gothic temple, of which there are still some remnants. It was adjacent to the Royal Palace, and seen as a Royal Church therefore important ceremonies were held there such as the marriage of Prince Afonso to Isabel of Castilla in 1490. The interior has a single nave, rectangular in shape and in the form of a Latin cross, emphasizing the Baroque high-altar and the Third Order of Saint Francis Chapel. The greatest popular curiosity resides in the Bones Chapel, of three naves completely covered in human bones (17th century).

About Lissabon

Top-ranked sights in Lissabon: Commerce Square (Praça do Comércio), Pena National Palace (Palacio Nacional da Pena), Alfama.
