2. You will begin the guided tour of Otranto from the Aragonese Castle, built at the end of the 15th century, with its towers and walls that protected the city. You will discover the history of Otranto, one of the most beautiful towns in Italy, with a view of the sea which is located at the easternmost point of the heel of Italy, which is why it has always been considered the gateway to Italy for the populations of ' East. During the guided tour you will discover its characteristic historical center with ancient palaces and churches, meeting, from time to time, glimpses of landscapes in which the village meets the famous crystalline sea. You will have the opportunity to enter the Cathedral of the Annunciation which houses one of the most beautiful mosaics in southern Italy, built in the second half of the 1100s and which represents the tree of life. At the end of the visit you will leave for Gallipoli

3. You will reach Gallipoli, fascinating pearl of the Ionian. You will visit the old town, the historic port, the ancient walls, and the enchanting views of the sea aboard the characteristic Ape Calessino, with free time for walking or for lunch.

4. Return to Lecce and end of the excursion at Porta Napoli.

About Lecce

Lecce is a Baroque city in Italy's heel, built in honey-coloured limestone and carved with flowers, animals and saints on every façade.

Lecce's soft local limestone could be carved like wood, and the architects of the seventeenth century used it to cover churches and palaces in garlands, cherubs, animals and plants, a style called Leccese Baroque. The Basilica of Santa Croce has the richest façade, and the Piazza del Duomo is a closed square with a campanile. A Roman amphitheatre lies half uncovered in Piazza Sant'Oronzo, and the city is sometimes called the Florence of the South.
