1. Board your coach in central Lucerne and travel south to Engelberg, a glorious alpine village tucked in the shadows of Mt Titlis.

2. Upon arrival, hop aboard the aerial cableway with your guide, and then ride to the glacier’s summit — some 10,000 feet (3,020 meters) above sea level. Take a ride with the revolving cable car "Rotair" and enjoy the spectacular sights of the glacier's deep crevasses and gigantic ice boulders.

3. Visit the Glacier Cave and pass over Europe's highest suspension bridge - the Cliff Walk! Take a ride with the Ice Flyer which brings you close to the crevasses and the Glacier Park where you can experience snow tubing even in summer!   Simply beautiful! Our favorite part was going up and then down the mountain looking at the stunning views. Having a glass of Prosecco at the top was frosting on the cake.

• 1Tourist Trap - Don’t waste your money

  Huge tourist trap. Overly commercialized and expensive for what you actually get. Especially since their best advertised attractions close at a moments notice. Cliff walk? Closed. Rotating cable car? Closed. “Glacier Cave?” man made and not worth the cost to go to the summit. Save your money and go elsewhere. Giving it one star because the views at the top are “okay.” 1/10 would not recommend.

  Well worth the extra cost, but don't expect the tour guide to add much. Meeting point was confusing as it was across the street in the bus parking lot and not at the Google map location. Make sure you check ahead of time the weather and that all the activities are open the day you are going before you book. Best to pay last minute and cancel if you need to.

About Lucerne

Lucerne is a compact Swiss lake city with a covered wooden bridge, a medieval wall and a ring of mountains, in the heart of Switzerland.

Lucerne sits at the northern end of Lake Lucerne, where the Reuss River flows out under two old wooden bridges. The Chapel Bridge, with its stone water tower and painted roof panels, dates from the fourteenth century, although it was partly rebuilt after a fire in 1993. The old town has painted house fronts, squares and the twin-spired Jesuit church, and the Museggmauer, a wall with nine towers, closes it to the north.
